The Duties Of A Groomsmen

Jannia Palmer • Sep 15, 2020

If you have been selected to be a groomsman for your friend's wedding, there are some
specific things you will be required to do at the wedding. This small guide will help
prepare you and inform you on what those things are. Relax, these duties are not
extravagant or require serious dedication however your awareness and help is needed
during the ceremony.

Ushering

Depending on the size of the wedding is typically how many groomsmen the
Groom will decide to have at his wedding. If you are one of the Groomsmen you will be
assigned a certain number of guests and probably in a certain seating section. You will
be expected to help usher guests at the wedding to their seats before the ceremony
begins. It’s also a good idea to make sure you assigned guests have everything they
need or are aware of where the restrooms are located to prevent unnecessary
distractions during the ceremony.

Deck the ride

One of the most enjoyable parts for a Groomsman man is the part of decorating
the wedding vehicle. Don’t be shy when it comes to this, be creative and personal with
your decorations! Ask the Groom what's acceptable for him, and make sure to have fun
with this task! Some great ways to decorate the car is to use words such as the date of
their marriage or their names. Symbols can be drawn or used from stickers such as
wedding bands or car decals of a bride and groom. As obvious as it seems, keep in
mind to only use things such as silly strings or washable markers, as it would be a
costly fix to repair any damage from the decorations. Always be 100% that what you do
is approved first from the Groom.
Cool Decor Tips:
● Flowers
● Ribbons
● Silly String
● Plaques
● Decals

Party Time

What an exciting event to attend, the bachelor party. Most Groomsmen, typically
the best man will be selected to help plan this event. Stay in close contact with the
Groom to help make the planning of this party and execution go as smoothly as
possible. Remember, this should be an event to remember as it will be the last party
that the Groom will attend as a single man. You may want to arrange a moment at the
party where the Groom can speak and share his feelings with his most honored guests,
there’s nothing wrong with a little heart to heart moment right?

Bonus Duties of Groomsmen

● Prepare a “best mans speech” (if you are one)
● Maintain the wedding ring until the ceremony
● Be the witness and sign the certificate
